Deer Hunting (Whitetail and Axis)
Outstanding whitetail and exotics have been harvested on the Herradura throughout the years and the quality of the herd is always being monitored and continues to improve
Our current management program is laying the groundwork to ensure the next generation of incredible bucks here at the Herradura Ranch.
Year
round feeding of protein, along with the introduction of 400
acres of food plots, has made an enormous difference in quality
and quantity of wildlife. Food plots are strategically located on
the ranch to cultivate a variety of high protein, nutritional vegetation
for the assured viability of all the wildlife species. This combination,
along with the native vegetation, has resulted in a significant
increase in antler size and mass each year, as well as the residual
benefits to the bird populations.
Upland Bird Hunting
Bird
hunting on the Herradura is the best that Texas has to offer. The
ranch employs some of the finest dogs and dog handlers in the quail
hunting business. Their custom designed trucks hold up to 12 dogs
at a time and can comfortably seat four hunters.
Over 120 miles of underground irrigation supplies consistent moisture throughout the ranch. Year-round feeding programs as well as food plots of milo, Upland Game Mix, sunflowers and croton, provide optimal nutrition for successful hatches of wild birds every year.
In addition to quail hunts, the Herradura accommodates large groups for mourning dove hunting as well as guided hunts for Rio Grande turkey. The plentiful moisture in the last few years has also been beneficial for our upland bird populations.
Turkey, Javelina, Coyote and Bobcats
If you are looking for some excellent Rio Grande turkey hunting, then the Herradura is the place for you. Our quality population of long beards are the envy of the state. We also provide guided javelina, coyote and bobcat hunts offering our guests a nice change of pace.
